Isothermal?

a. a combustion is performed by burning a mixture of fuel and oxygen in a constant-volume container surrounded by a water bath. During the experiment, the temperature of the water rises. if the system is the mixture of fuel and oxygen:

i. has heat been transferred?

ii. has work been done?

iii. what is the sign of delta U?

b. Define the coefficient of expansitivity belta ,b and the coefficient of isothermal compressibility k and show that

(delta P/delta T)v= b/k

by taking the internal U as a function of P and V, show that

(delta U/ delta P)v=Cvk/b

where Cv is the specific heat capacity at constant volume.
